Penn and Teller- Fool Us is a competition in magic TV show that features magicians who perform tricks in front of American magician-comedian duo Penn & Teller. Its initial season was expertly hosted by Jonathan Ross, and the third season onwards Fool Us Host Alyson.

Every episode begins with the introduction stating the main purpose of the show. Penn & Teller come out and sit down at the stage. The the hopeful performers perform their act before them, in front of a live studio audience. Following each show, Penn & Teller privately talk while the host interview the magicians. Penn & Teller then reveal if they know how the trick was performed, typically using cryptic language or writing down the method and then presenting it to the magicians in order to verify, the method, in order to avoid divulging the secrets of the trick.

The Worst Ten Penn and Teller— Fool Us Winners

Fool Us was filmed at Fountain Studios in London, England (season one) and the Penn & Teller Theater in Las Vegas (season two onward). Each time a show is performed, if Penn & Teller cannot figure out how a trick was performed, then the magician(s) who performed the trick get a Fool Us trophy and a five-star flight in Las Vegas to perform as the opening act for Penn & Teller’s show also at The Rio Hotel & Casino. The sixth season began on October 9, 2021.

Teller states that doublespeak can help people learn new tricks without compromising the trick. Should Penn & Teller are wrongor are not able to find out the method used to perform the trick, the magician will be awarded a Fool Us trophy and the possibility of performing in one of Penn and Teller’s Las Vegas shows. A backstage judge who is well-versed in the tricks of the magic industry and privately informed how the trick is performed ahead of the event, will make any important calls as to whether Penn & Teller were properly fooled. In the final moments of every show, Penn & Teller perform a magic act on their own.

For the first season, Jonathan Ross served as a temporary replacement for Penn and Teller’s hosting duties but they were back for the following season. It was filmed in Fountain Studios in London, England for the first season, before moving to the Penn & Teller Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada for its second and subsequent seasons.

They also may talk to a magician that is performing and ask for them to repeat a specific act or give more details.
